Hike Leaders lead groups of cancer survivors and caregivers on hikes. Most of our hikes are on unpaved trails, and are 2-6 miles long, though longer hikes are permitted.
Hike Leaders are responsible ensuring participants’ safety. This includes monitoring participants’ physical condition; monitoring weather forecasts and the actual weather while on hikes; taking appropriate action in event of adverse weather conditions; providing or arranging for any first aid in response to medical needs (e.g., dressing hot spots or blisters, cleaning and bandaging abrasions, encouraging participants to eat and drink, contacting search and rescue as needed, etc.). Hike Leaders are responsible for supervising any hike volunteers.
At a minimum, Hike Leaders should have a current Wilderness First Aid certificate. A medical or nursing degree or EMT certificate is more than adequate to meet the WFA requirement. Hike Leaders should have good outdoor skills, including route-finding, map reading, and familiarity with GPS software. (There is some flexibility here, depending on the hikes you choose to lead and your familiarity with them. The more difficult and remote the hike is, the better your route-finding needs to be.) Hike leaders must carry a first aid kit (which LBL will supply if needed).
Hike Leaders are responsible for choosing the time, date and location for hikes they lead.

About Live By Living
Location:
2381 S Lupine St, Lakewood, CO 80228, US
Mission Statement
Live By Living connects cancer survivors (and caregivers) with nature, one another, and their own inner resources. Our programs combine the proven benefits of exercise, the solace of nature, and camaraderie of shared experience to create a powerful experience that helps survivors regain their bearings, refresh their spirits, and restore their vitality.
Description
Live By Living offers day hikes and snowshoe outings most weekends of the year. We also offer 2-night cancer survivor/caregiver retreats several times a year (14 retreats in 2018). On our retreats, survivors either hike to remote cabins and spend 2 nights and 3 days in a spectacular wilderness setting, or enjoy the beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park from a base in Estes Park. Between 2009 and mid-2018, Live By Living has conducted 59 retreats and nearly 400 day trips. Over 1,000 people have attended retreats, and thousands have participated in hikes and walks.
Live By Living is based in Colorado, and offers activities in several locations throughout the state.
Live By Living's goal is to offer its services nationwide, so that survivors anywhere can reap the emotional, psychological and physical benefits of its nature-based, healthy lifestyle programs.
