The positions include: Youth Program Summer VISTAs will work to prevent the summer learning loss for 90 homeless and near homeless school age children. The Summer VISTAs will ensure that youth have opportunities to engage in positive recreational activities with peers and increase their knowledge and skills through participation in our five key programming areas: STEM, Arts, Cultural Enrichment, Health/Physical Fitness, and Life Skills. In addition, the Summer VISTAs will ensure that youth are engaged in daily literacy activities. The Summer VISTAs will create lasting summer memories during weekly field trips where the youth are able to participate in activities such as skating, swimming, and bowling. The Child Development Summer VISTA will design and implement age-appropriate activities for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in the Little Learners Child Development Center. Responsibilities will include planning and scheduling volunteers from the community to come to Little Learners in order to provide in-program field trips for our children. This position requires serving closely with other Little Learners and Our House team members to engage children in activities (books, songs, games, etc.), to track attendance, and to ensure safety and well-being of all clients. Summer Feeding VISTAs Serving closely with the Children’s Programs Cook, these VISTAs will prepare food for the Little Learners and Our Club Summer Programs. Food preparation will include breakfast, lunch, and snack every day for approximately 60 children in Little Learners, 90 youth in Our Club, and 50 adults. The Summer Feeding VISTAs are also responsible for tracking meals received by Our Club youth for our Summer Feeding grant, completing food orders and pick-up, and assisting in cleaning the kitchen after each meal. Summer VISTAs receive a bi-weekly living allowance (paycheck) of $575, professional development, experience working at a nonprofit, an education award that can go toward future tuition or student loan payments, and more! Associates must be able to serve 40 hours per week beginning May 31 - August 7, 2022. They must be at least 18 years old and a US citizen, legal permanent resident, or national and pass background checks. Our House operates an 80-bed shelter, a 39-bed family housing program (18 family rooms), an education and job training center, a licensed child development center, and a feeding program that serves over 45,000 meals per year. Our House also offers additional free services that help people transform their lives. Services include one-on-one case management, after school and summer programs, parenting classes and job search assistance. Our House programs help people become successful members of the workforce, the community, and their own families.
