The AmeriCorps VISTA LEEAP Project at Fordham Law School’s Feerick Center for Social Justice aims to expand Center and partner organization capacity to promote the rights and address the problems facing marginalized and low-income New Yorkers. The Feerick Center Veterans Rights Project (the "Project") Coordinator will recruit, train, and support volunteer attorneys and law students to provide legal information to low-income veterans at colleges and with community partners throughout New York State. The Feerick Center for Social Justice is committed to recruiting, hiring, and retaining a staff from different cultures, races, educational backgrounds, life experiences, socio-economic classes, sexual orientations, ages, genders, and abilities.

Member Duties:

The VISTA will identify and work with established nonprofits that serve veterans and provide high-quality legal services, and identify and coordinate with community-based partners to explore and develop remote (and, depending on public health conditions, in-person) programming. The VISTA will also organize community education workshops for veterans conducted by volunteers focused on VA benefits, consumer issues, family law, housing, and other relevant civil legal services needs at colleges in New York State and other venues where low-income veterans either live, study, work or receive services, and organize an annual Veterans Day Clinic.

This position is a part of an 11-member VISTA cadre at FC and 3 other Project Sites. You will also have monthly check-ins with the FC senior staff, weekly program meetings with senior staff, monthly professional development workshops led by the VISTA Leader, and opportunities to attend NYC networking and training events.
