My Sister's Keeper...The Walk to End the Violence, Murder, and Trafficking of Our Women of Color

Save to Favorites

As taken from the Respect Our Daughters website:

"Being a service provider for the past 12 years has allowed me the blessing of working with thousands of youth and adults, mainly who are working to build their lives after leaving incarceration. Sadly, over the years I've noticed how our statistics have demonstrated the staggering amount of women and young girls who have been trafficked, abused or in many instances still caught in a cycle of violence. The majority of these women and girls are Black, Brown, or Indigenous.

As story after story have been shared with me and finding myself oftentimes in an overwhelming position of trying to find necessary resources for these ladies, I discovered another terrifying truth. So many of these women and girls were easily victimized because they had no one to advocate for them. They had no one searching for them on the news. Oftentimes, they were not believed because they had a criminal history or had addiction issues in their past which in some way, caused them to look like someone who deserved the abuse.

On May 16, 2022, I will begin a walk across our country to raise awareness and seek the answers to why so many of our Women of Color can be so easily overlooked, discarded and not viewed as important enough to warrant news coverage of their disappearance, their abuse, murder, or the need to search for them, and return them to their families. I will begin in Los Angeles and will conclude the walk at the Statue of Liberty."

We need a passionate and devoted team of committed people to drive, camp, raise awareness and funding as we cross the country on foot.
