Typical services provided by support volunteers are:
- sitting with a patient to relieve caregiver;
- listening non-judgmentally to patient and family members;
- running errands;
- providing companionship and sharing activities patient may enjoy
- preparing light meals, performing light housekeeping tasks;
- reading to the patient, or writing for them
- Encouraging patient to share their life story (look at photo albums together, elicit talk about favorite things, special life events, etc.);
- Providing a caring presence for those with limited ability to interact.

Hospice of Chattanooga begin in 1981 as an all-volunteer agency. Today, it is the community's oldest hospice and volunteers remain a vital part of our agency. As we continue to grow, our need for volunteers grows also!
