Typical services provided by support volunteers are:

  • sitting with a patient to relieve caregiver;
  • listening non-judgmentally to patient and family members;
  • running errands;
  • providing companionship and sharing activities patient may enjoy
  • preparing light meals, performing light housekeeping tasks;
  • reading to the patient, or writing for them
  • Encouraging patient to share their life story (look at photo albums together, elicit talk about favorite things, special life events, etc.);
  • Providing a caring presence for those with limited ability to interact.

Hospice of Chattanooga begin in 1981 as an all-volunteer agency. Today, it is the community's oldest, largest, not for profit, United Way-supported hospice, and volunteers remain a vital part of our agency. As we continue to grow, our need for volunteers grows also.
