QUICK OVERVIEW
Drive project planning of a 2022 STEM-related summer camp
MISSION
Collaborate with a team of volunteers to plan a fun-interactive experience for youth within the Los Angeles community. As summer approaches, our team is looking to host a STEM-related science camp that will incite curiosity and foster the next age of scientists and engineers. As students and STEM professionals, the S.Y.STEM Coalition team is revving to put on a guided-instruction camp where kids can be hands-on and learn new topics outside the classroom.
IMPACT
Our organization, and more so our LA Chapter is still incredibly young and looking to grow throughout this year in hopes of impacting as many children's lives as possible. We want to show them the amazing opportunities that STEM can open for them and the community!
If you have a few hours to dedicate during the week to this special cause, our team will love to have you! This is a place to use your creativity, your self-starter work ethic, and your passion to help give back to the next generation of Einsteins.
VOLUNTEER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a strategic plan to host a STEM-themed camp during the summer (- 2022: schedule, volunteer coordination, logistics, fundraising)
Perform outreach and recruit potential volunteers for camp supervisors
Participate in outreach events (presenting STEM demonstrations and other activities to promote camp)
Help with solicitations, work to bring in funds for the organization
Network with other STEM organizations and companies in the LA area
Meet (virtually) every other week for 0.5 - 1 hr

Description
A little about SYSTEM Coalition: we started 5 years ago in Tucson, AZ. Six exceptionally talented and motivated people who wanted to give back to the community by helping k-12 students find a passion for STEM. We saw all of the poverty in our city and realized if just one of those kids from that community was able to get a great paying job in STEM, they could not only help themselves but also help their whole family break the cycle of poverty! Now the organization has over 100 volunteers, chapters in 4 different cities and growing! More than anything, being a part of this amazing organization has shown me that you really CAN change the world, one step at a time!
