This fulfilling volunteer opportunity places you online with homeless and low-income high school drop-out students in Vancouver, WA who are working hard to attain their GED. Students all around the state of Washington have dropped out of school due to COVID-19 and due to struggles in our current education system. While our face to face locations have seen a major increase in enrollment, there are still students who require online support. You will be ensuring that there will be no barriers for our students to succeed in education.
Our virtual program is an appointment based system where students request support for a specific day/time. Through our appointment system, tutors will be able to pick and choose the appointments they are able to work, at a first come basis. We understand volunteers cant always commit each week, but would still like to help when they can -- this is a great way to be involved in our students education journey whenever you are available!
While being in-person and online, we have helped our students become more confident in their studies and improve their overall GED practice scores immensely; with many of them passing at least one of the four tests. While we do focus a lot on academia, we also put forth an effort to mentor our students and help them grow not only as students, but as individuals as they proceed through these challenging times. Grades are important, but in many cases, life skills are just as necessary.
We would love to have you on our team of dedicated volunteers and help these youth achieve their goals and fulfill their dreams. When these youth meet someone that believes in them, their whole world view changes and they blossom in front of our very eyes.

Mission Statement
PAX Learning Center was created by a group of dedicated educators and community members who see an increasing need to help those who dropped out of high school and are struggling day to day to survive. We at PAX are dedicated to assisting individuals who have not completed their requirements to attain a high school diploma in the Vancouver Metro area. We seek to provide academic and job skills training to these individuals in order for them to have the opportunity to walk their preferred path, whether it be higher education or a career.
Description
PAX Learning Center is a 501 c(3) nonprofit organization that aims to assist individuals who are in the lower socioeconomic tier and help them get onto their preferred path, whether that be higher education or a career. PAX is a newly established organization and is looking to grow within the Vancouver community. Currently, PAX offers tutoring services to a number of partnerships within the community to help people attain their GED. As we continue to grow, we look to host a number of programs which will include classes for GED preparation as well as career building and internship programs. In tandem with tutoring, we are also looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping the PAX Development team with different projects such as fundraising events, grant writing, marketing, and more. If you are a student looking for an opportunity to hone your craft or have a co-op requirement for a class in either of these categories, please reach out to us! We are happy to have anybody on our team who seeks to help this population, they really need our help.
