Job Carr Cabin Museum in Old Town Park

Help kids have a pioneer experience.

Part-time volunteers are needed to help guide elementary school students through hands-on activities during field trips to the Job Carr Cabin Museum. Demonstrate old time crafts and games. Show what life was like in Tacoma 150 years ago.

You'll assist museum staff in providing a fun, interactive experience for elementary students. We'll provide information and training to help you engage children in hands-on activities, interpreting frontier life in the 1860s. Activities vary based on weather, but may include designing quilts, shaking cream into butter, making pioneer toys, leading an artifact guessing game, organizing a Lincoln log building challenge, coordinating field games and foot races.

Volunteers can sign up for one or more shifts. We welcome volunteers of all ages, interests, and skill levels. You must be reliable, with excellent attendance, promptness and courteous behavior. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application form and successfully pass a security background check.
