In this role, volunteers are matched with a mentee to help them explore their interests, develop their goals, and build their workplace skills. Mentors meet mostly virtually with their mentee to help them in a service-learning project and end presentation.
DATES: July 14th - August 18th
TIMES: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1:00-1:30 PM plus 1 hr. per week of planning
VIRTUAL ORIENTATION: June 14th from 6-7 PM or June 15th from 8-9 AM
VOLUNTEERS should have experience in a career field, be comfortable interacting with youth, and ideally have some experience mentoring, teaching, or coaching. An orientation is mandatory and although it is not required, it would be helpful to be bilingual in English and Spanish.
The Summer Work Program is a 6-week program for students aged 14-19 to get early job experience, learn how to set goals, and build their long-term career readiness skills.TESTIMONALS FROM CAREER MENTORS

LEAP for Education empowers underserved students to achieve social and economic mobility by cultivating personal, educational, and career growth. We do this by teaching students academic and life-skills needed to perform at higher levels in middle school and high school. Students also receive ongoing personalized support and community connections which helps them graduate from college and create a future based on their strengths and interests.
Description
LEAP for Education is the first North Shore organization of its kind to empower first-generation-to-college and underserved youth to graduate from college and succeed in education and life regardless of ethnicity or gender. We deliver a portfolio of innovative, academic, life skills, career and college success programs for middle school, high school and college students creating a lasting impact in our youth, their families and communities.
LEAP has a variety of volunteer opportunities, ranging from one-time service to longer-term commitments. We believe that all supporters are vital to the organization’s mission, and engagement helps students find success and build a stronger community.

- All LEAP programs are built on the foundation of trust between students and adults. As such, volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of two hours per week for the entire session.
- While volunteers are not required to speak Spanish, it would be helpful to be bilingual in English and Spanish. It is asked that volunteers are patient with multilingual students and are enthusiastic about experiencing other cultures.
