BOARD MEMBER RECRUITMENT - EDUCATION

A Child For All, Inc., (ACFA) provides a safe and loving environment for vulnerable children in Mali, West Africa. Children who are living on the streets because they do not have parents who can take care of them are welcomed into a home and receive the nourishment, education, health care and attention necessary to thrive.

Founded in 2008, ACFA is run by a small and dedicated working board that gathers monthly. Our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization, eager to make a difference in the lives of Malian children.

The benefits of contributing to a small working board include:

• Easy communication and interaction--board members get to know each other well

• Constant and meaningful involvement provides a high level of satisfaction from board service, and

• The participation of every board member counts.

We especially welcome candidates with personal or professional experience in West or sub-Saharan Africa, including Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and Diaspora Africans living in the U.S. ACFA’s operations has expanded and ACFA operates a home in the capital of Bamako and the Zorokoro Children’s Complex on 5 acres of land in the village of Zorokoro. The Zorokoro Children’s Complex includes a home for ACFA’s children and a school which has started with kindergarten for children ages 3-5 years old. A library and computer lab is opening soon at the Complex.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

We are currently recruiting a Board member with expertise in the following area:

Education including early childhood education and library and computer technology

This individual will support ACFA’s education program in Mali, including strategy in providing education in ACFA’s school at the Zorokoro Children’s Complex, advising on teenagers’ education program/opportunities and development of ACFA’s library and computer lab in Zorokoro. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the development of an education program (kindergarten through elementary school) and establishing, and management of a library and computer lab.

INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

A small non profit organization with no staff in the U.S., ACFA has a working board: you have to be able to roll up your sleeves and go to work for the children we support. Board members are expected to attend monthly virtual board meetings and devote at least 2 hours a week to ACFA.

Board members are expected to come to meetings prepared to ask questions, make recommendations and decisions

Board members are expected to actively participate/run ACFA’s committees.

Bound by their fidicuary duties, booard members play a major role in securing the financial resources necessary for ACFA to achieve its mission. This is done by any means, from leveraging personal relationships and connections to making personal financial contributions every year.

Board members are expected to responsibly represent ACFA to their respective communities and to advocate for ACFA’s mission and programs as appropriate.
