Recruiting Organization: Warren Land Conservation Trust
Purpose: To monitor, protect, and enhance the properties managed by the Warren Land Conservation Trust (WLCT) in order to help preserve the Town of Warren’s unique natural resources.
Responsibilities:
- To monitor and record the conditions of the assigned property
- To make note of and report any nearby construction and/or boundary issues to the WLCT
- To monitor vegetation, paying particular attention to invasive plant species
- To make note of any trail issues and suggest trail maintenance projects
- To knowledgeable on the physical property itself, as well as the specific goals and/or challenges in maintaining the assigned property as outlined in the Stewardship Plan
Qualifications:
- The flexibility and initiative to work independently
- Knowledge of the natural environment is beneficial, but not necessary
- An interest in protecting and preserving the natural environment of Warren
Time Commitment: Property monitoring reports for public access properties should be completed at minimum once every three (3) months. Property monitoring reports for non-public access properties should be completed at minimum once every six (6) months. There are additional opportunities for participating in trail maintenance and other projects that may occur as needed.
Training Required: An orientation will be provided to cover position expectations, goals, and procedures. Land monitor volunteers will receive a guidebook as a reference outlining the land monitoring process. Additional on-the-job training may be offered throughout your service.
Supervision: Due to the independent nature of the monitoring, supervision will be minimal when on site, once the volunteer is comfortable with the process. The volunteer coordinator and WLCT staff will be available via phone or email to answer any questions.
