The mission of our Community Food Access Program is to reduce barriers around access and affordability of local food, such as transportation, price, and stigma. In partnership with community organizations, our Mobile Market - Chuck The GoFarm Truck - brings local food to neighborhoods where these barriers are greatest. We create equitable and inclusive spaces in hopes of making everyone feel welcome in their local food system.

You will assist GoFarm staff and interns with putting on our Mobile Markets. With your help, we can provide access to local food for more people in the community. This is also a great opportunity to get to know people in the community, talk about local food, hear about new recipe ideas, and learn about the inner workings of GoFarm!

Volunteer Tasks:

  • Set up Mobile Market by filling produce displays; creating signage with produce labels and prices; and displaying flyers, recipes, and other materials
  • Help welcome and assist customers as they shop our unique walk-up market truck
  • Tally customer purchases, share information about produce use and storage, and help with additional activities such as kids’ activities or food demos
  • Help stock produce bins and food displays
  • Use produce scale to weigh out portions of veggies
  • Adhere to GoFarm’s Food Safety Plan & trainings

Working Conditions:

  • May be asked to lift crates up to 50 lbs
  • Be prepared to work in ever-changing Colorado weather conditions: heat, sunshine, snow, wind, rain
  • Please bring a positive attitude and engage with staff, interns, and community members. We work with a variety of populations at our partner sites and value building relationships and community with them. Our markets are rooted in our values of equity and collaboration, where we create spaces of welcome, inclusivity, and fun!

Schedule and Time Commitment:

  • We’re looking for volunteers for the entire Summer Mobile Market season, from June 22nd to October 21st. You can sign up for weekly or biweekly (every other week) volunteer shifts. This will be either 18 or 9 shifts total.
  • We’ll ask you to pick 1 location and time slot to volunteer at over the course of the season (location and shift information below). This way, you’ll get to know the customers, interns, and staff at that location, and become part of the local food community!
  • We know that emergencies happen, so if you need to cancel or switch your volunteer shift, please let us know as soon as possible before each shift!

Locations and Shift Times:

  • Arvada Head Start 5150 Allison St, Arvada, CO 80002
    • Thursdays 1:30- 4:00pm
  • Juanita Nolasco Residences
    • Fridays biweekly, starting on June 24th, 10:30am-1:00pm

Orientation and Training:

Please attend 1 volunteer orientation session on either Thursday, May 26th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, OR Tuesday, May 31st from 9:30-11:00 am. During the orientation session, we will review everything you need to know about GoFarm, food safety, and the mobile market!

Location-specific training will also be provided by staff during your first volunteer shift.

Volunteer Benefits:

We know how busy your schedule can get, and we appreciate you taking the time to help us run our mobile market! In exchange for your time and hard work, we will provide you with:

  • Depending on what is available - we’ll send you home with at least a couple of food items each week! This will most often be veggies.
  • Invites and discounted tickets to GoFarm events
  • A priceless experience learning about and working within the local food system!
