The Learning Center, serving the North Lawndale and Little Village communities of Chicago, supports adults in their pursuit of an educational path to more confident and effective living. Join us as a Volunteer Tutor and empower students through the belief that education is liberating. An enthusiastic approach to learning is the only prerequisite. No prior training is required. We provide professional training.

We currently offer free Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) with support from our City Colleges of Chicago partner, Malcolm X College. Independently, we offer Spanish Literacy and Computer Literacy classes. Under the supervision of professional educators and staff, our volunteer tutors help adult learners improve their literacy and math skills to obtain their High School Equivalency Certificate (commonly known as the GED Diploma). Volunteer, either in-person or online, as a reading, math, and/or ESL tutor.

In-person tutoring takes place at The Learning Center (2153 S. Millard Avenue), a cozy converted rectory. We are open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM 5:00 PM. Online tutoring is conducted over Zoom and brings The Learning Center to you. Online tutoring is available during evening and weekend hours when there is a demonstrated need.

For more information, speak directly with the Program Coordinator by emailing Miriam Gonzalez at mgonzalez@tlchchicago. org or calling (773) 277-3111. Let's strengthen our community together!
