Computer skills:

Friends of Guest House is looking for individuals to teach a computer skills workshop to approximately 10 - 15 of our residents.  This workshop should cover tips and tools to successfully navigate computers, phone and social media. The goal is to assist in building confidence in the residents during their journey in this high tech society. Instructors should have some teaching experience in the subject area they wish to teach and be able to commit to teaching once a week for 50 minutes at least 8 weeks. Topics such as social media: dos and don’ts, Microsoft word basics, excel basics, How to use your phone, etc

Friends of Guest House in Alexandria, Virginia is currently looking for volunteers to help provide a new beginning for women recently released from incarceration.

Friends of Guest House is looking for volunteers to work in partnership with staff and volunteers to supervise residential halfway house for a maximum of 9 residents who have been recently released from incarceration (all for non-violent offenses). All of the women have a firm commitment to making changes to their life and the staff and volunteers are here to help them achieve that. Here at the house we offer individual counseling, group counseling, life skills development, support groups, vocational and educational assistance, housing assistance and referrals to necessary community resources.

  • Must be at least 18
  • Classes run on weekdays between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00pm. An instructor will teach one class for 50 minutes once a week. The classes run on a 16 week schedule with 8 weeks on and 8 weeks off. Classes may be in-person or virtual.
