Assist adults from other countries in practicing their English speaking skills.

Are you passionate about languages? Do you enjoy learning about other cultures? If so, you might be a perfect match to volunteer with our English Language Learners Conversation Classes.

Volunteers 18+ are needed to help facilitate in person Beginner or Intermediate English Language Learner conversation classes in September. The purpose is to help people whose first language is not English practice their English conversation skills.

The classes will be on Saturday mornings from 9:30-11AM beginning September. The volunteers will shadow ELL Virtual Facilitators this summer on Tuesday nights from to 6:30-7:45PM prepare. Then, the volunteer will be given a chance to facilitate some classes. The goal is to prepare the volunteer to facilitate a class for 5-8 students in person from September - December 2022.

Fluency in English, comfortability with public speaking, and computer skills are required. Volunteers must commit to an entire fall trimester (four months) of classes. Each volunteer facilitator will receive a picture dictionary and headset to use during online classes training.

The purpose of the Johnson County Library is to provide access to information and promote life long learning and growth for all ages. Volunteers are vital to the daily operation of all 14 of our locations across Johnson County. You can volunteer in an ongoing position for 2-3 hours per week and a minimum 6 month commitment or you can sign up to join us for one time events as your schedule allows - join us!

Description

Our primary need includes materials management. Volunteers assist with pulling books that need to be transferred to other locations. In addition, they assist with sorting and shelving of materials. If you enjoy working with books, this is the job for you!
