We are a non-profit organization building an infrastructure to develop, manufacture, distribute and operate remote-controlled ventilators and oxygen concentrators designed to address the specific challenges of developing countries. Your Impact

We are looking for an entrepreneurial minded individual who can lead our organization to develop product, revenue streams, and customers in the non-profit operational environment. You will be an exceptional steward of the organization’s financial assets and its volunteers’ time. Your previous leadership experience in non-governmental or health service organizations allows you to prioritize projects, allocate resources, and motivate the team to complete its objectives. Your industry experience will guide the organization through its most pressing needs to include fundraising, market development, and regulatory compliance/approval. You will conduct weekly meetings with directors to steer their efforts, and you will make tough decisions in a lean start-up environment. The integrity and passion you bring to every decision motivates each volunteer to do the same as we strive to fulfill our mission. This role has supreme influence on the success of the organization and equally provides an immense opportunity to change the lives of many in our underprivileged communities around the world.

Your Responsibilities

  • Define go-to-market strategy
  • Direct day-to-day operations
  • Prioritize business objectives
  • Coach functional directors
  • Recruit talented leaders
  • Ensure regulatory compliance
  • Oversee fundraising and business development
  • Prepare comprehensive budgets and financial reports
  • Build partnerships with other non-profits and NGOs
  • Develop leaders within the organization
  • Liaise with the Board of Directors
  • Engage volunteer workforce

Requirements

  • Leadership in non-governmental or health service organization, or technical start-up
  • Seasoned fundraiser and business developer
  • Experience in multi-national program management
  • Experience bringing products to market
  • Highly ethical behavior
  • Effective communicator and motivator
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • (Preferred) Masters in Business Administration or equivalent
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with FDA (or equivalent) medical device approval process
  • (Preferred) Existing relationships/contacts with established NGOs (IRC, WHO, UNICEF, etc)

Required Weekly Time Commitment

  • 20 hours per week

*This is a substantial volunteer (unpaid) position

Description

Every Year 4.2 million children under 5 are desperate for oxygen. 800,000 mothers lose their child every year because of Pneumonia, a lung disease often requiring oxygen. This toll is higher than for any other disease in the world. What hospitals in the US and Europe consider one of the most essential treatments is not available for many. The problem, oxygen concentrators keep breaking down in the high humidity, temperature and dust environments, burn through during energy spikes when the power comes back online after one of the many outages or simply breaks and nobody knows how to repair it.

We have set out to change this and develop an oxygen concentrator that will make public health investments much more effective. Our first calculations suggest that we could lower the cost of a child's life by as much as two-thirds. Due to our organization working with volunteers we can reduce the development cost but bringing a medical device to market is hard work and we expect that you meet the requirements and are responsive and transparent with your skills and availability.
