Volunteer-Sexual Assault Counselor

NCRCT is seeking dedicated individuals who feel a deep commitment to supporting survivors and working to end sexual violence. Volunteers who complete training will become California state Certified Sexual Assault Counselors and will staff our 24-hour crisis line. Crisis line volunteers can expect to provide peer-support counseling via hotline.
Our next round of training begins virtually September 12 ,times are TBD . Training is done via Zoom and requires a $50 non-refundable fee; scholarships may be available. We require 76 hours of our California State Certified Sexual Assault Counselor training. Some topics covered during the training include historical perspectives, intersection of discrimination/oppression and sexual violence, intimate partner violence/sexual violence, self harm, significant others, law enforcement and reporting, medical exams, and more.
Required Qualifications◦Access to a private phone
◦Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
◦Ability to adhere to NCRCT’s protocols, procedures, and policies
◦Ability to complete a 1 year commitment (CalPoly Humboldt or CR students should be able to commit to 2 semesters)
◦At least 18 years of age
◦High school diploma or equivalent
◦Ability to effectively interact with survivors from various cultures and backgrounds
◦Ability to be empathetic, respectful, and non-judgmental
◦Punctual and dependable
