During the pandemic, our site became 24/7 (year-round) to assist with the increased need in keeping vulnerable members of the community safe and off the streets. Additionally, we work to minimize exposures between these individuals. We hope to continue operating at this capacity; however, we need at least 2 people always present to stay open.
Currently nearly all of our staff, guests, and volunteers are vaccinated. The option is always available and highly encouraged, but not required to volunteer here. Due to this, we still ask that everyone remain masked while indoors and maintain social distance. Our staff and guests also work together to sanitize regularly. Lastly, we ask that folks keep in mind the population they are working/living with when engaging in activities outside of shelter.

Kitchen Volunteers: Volunteers assist with meal prep, meal service, dishwashing, and snack preparation.

05:00 PM to 07:30 PM
Kitchen Volunteers: Volunteers assist with meal prep, meal service, dishwashing, and snack preparation.

06:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Volunteers in the main shelter room: Volunteers greet guests and help with basic shelter tasks.

10:00 PM to 07:00 AM
OVERNIGHT Volunteers: Please, bring your own sleeping bag and pillows. We provide a clean bed in a quiet and private room.

Mission Statement
Room at the Inn's mission is to provide a safe and secure emergency home for women during the winter months and to provide year-round case management to help women stabilize their lives. Our goal is to ensure that guests and volunteers feel welcomed, valued, and respected in an atmosphere of personal responsibility and mutual support and to help guests and other women secure and retain permanent housing. Our vision is to bring stability and safety to homeless women, recognizing that when the most vulnerable women feel safe, all women are safer.
Description
Unity Shelter is a young non-profit with a very specific mission to help provide housing for those in our community who have none.
For decades, local religious institutions and volunteers have been providing the leadership, financial and operational support needed to run existing programs like the Mens Shelter , Room at the Inn & SafePlace. As the needs for affordable and transitional housing grew, it became clear that we needed to bring these disparate programs together into one organization to provide consistent leadership, leverage existing resources, expand/broaden fundraising efforts, raise awareness, share best practices and more.
