Visitor Service Representative (VSR) volunteers provide friendly, energetic assistance to visitors at Cottonwood Visitor Center at the southern end of the park - near Chiriaco Summit, CA . VSRs provide map orientation, hiking information, park literature, safety information, and information on natural and cultural resources. VSRs will also operate gift shop cash register for sales and answer phones to provide information. Work may be conducted inside the visitor center or outside at an information table, weather permitting. Applicants must enjoy working with the public and be able to work approximately May through August, 2022.


Cottonwood is a traditional Mission 66 area located in the Colorado Desert (elevation 3,100 feet) is surrounded by Mojave yucca and a short distance from the Cottonwood Spring palm oasis. It is 7 miles from the park’s south entrance, 10 miles from Interstate 10, 30 miles from the city of Indio, and within walking distance of the visitor center. There is no cell phone service at the volunteer site, but service can be found either at the visitor center or about 4 miles south of the campground, depending on your service provider. Wi-Fi can also be found at the visitor center. The volunteer site is located within the staff residential area, has full RV hook-ups (30 amps) and can accommodate a max RV length of 36 feet. Water is available and there is a dump station at the nearby campground. Camp hosts are responsible for filling their own propane.


This volunteer or volunteer couple will live on-site and work 32 hours per week through the summer. Must have an RV/trailer that requires no more than 30 amp hookups. Volunteer must be prepared to enjoy the hot Colorado Desert summer!
