It is Woodstock Farmers Market's mission is to provide access for all to quality fresh produce, address food insecurity, represent community diversity and strengthen neighborhood relationships through our support of local farmers and by providing a central gathering place. The market promotes healthy eating, food education, and close ties between farms and our urban community.

We can only fulfill our mission through the support of volunteers. Volunteers are essential to the success of our market every Sunday June-October. We are always seeking new volunteers and ways to connect with our neighbors and local community. We invite you to get involved in the 2023 season!

Volunteer Roles at Woodstock Farmers Market

Floaters will roam through the market, and may hover near entrances/exits. Floaters help with welcoming shoppers, answering customer questions, providing vendor breaks, and doing crowd counts. The morning and afternoon floaters will also be helping with minimal set-up/takedown. The midday floater shift is a great option for those unable to do heavy lifting. All floaters will be interacting a lot with our shoppers. Shift length: 1.5 hours

SNAP/Info Booth volunteers handle our wireless debit machine to convert EBT SNAP transactions into tokens which can be used with our vendors. SNAP/Info booth volunteers also distribute Double UP Food Bucks (DUFB), a matching program through Farmers Market Fund that makes healthy, locally grown food more accessible to underserved Oregonians. Additional training is required. We ask new volunteers to work a few floater shifts to build familiarity with our market, vendors, and policies before being trained in SNAP. This is because our info booth volunteers are often asked a lot of questions by customers. Shift length: 2.25 hours

Kids Booth Volunteers help facilitate the kids activity of the day (typically an easy/quick craft project). They help prepare materials, tidy up messes, invite kids to participate and provide explanations or tutorials if needed. This is a sitting stationary shift great for all abilities. Shift length: 2.25 hours

Kids Passport Program Volunteers
facilitate the stamping and awarding of prizes for weekly kids activity participation. How it works: Kids have their personal passport that is kept in our file box, which volunteers can find for kids to access and stamp after completing the kids activity of the day. Once kids have reached certain milestones, they are awarded a prize. Volunteers help to explain this process to parents and kids. This is a sitting stationary shift great for all abilities. Shift length: 2.25 hours

Set-up/ Tear-Down Volunteers
help us unpack/pack our shed with the needed equipment for the day. Get a quick workout in while helping us set-up/take-down bike racks, canopies, tables, chairs, bins, and more. This shift is great for able-bodied busy-bodies. Shift length: 45 mins

  • Training is typically done on-site. Our Volunteer & Community Coordinator will either train you personally or have you shadow one of our long term volunteers to show you the ropes. Being a volunteer is not difficult, and is supposed to be kind of fun! WFM staff are always around the market in case you need help.

We would love for you to become a part of our Woodstock Farmers Market community!

If you're interested in lending a hand this season please fill out our simple volunteer application and our Volunteer Coordinator will get in touch with you.

Description

The Woodstock Farmers market has been connecting our community to local Oregon farmers since 2011. A huge part of our success has been the amazing group of volunteers that show up each Sunday throughout the season to lend their time and enthusiasm to one of Portland’s favorite farmers markets. We couldn’t do this without you!

Volunteers help to make our market a safe functioning community space for all to enjoy, and with their help Woodstock Farmers Market has earned the reputation of being a socially-distanced and enjoyable market during 2020.
