Our volunteer Computer Technicians will gain hands-on experience with computer refurbishment. All you need are a pair of steel toed boots, to be over the age of 16, and a great attitude!
Duties may include:

  • Sorting of cables (VGA & DVI, power cords, AC adapters, KVM cables)
  • Sorting of hard disk drives (IDE/SCSI/SATA by rough size)
  • Removal of decals (utilizing heat guns)
  • Monitoring Testing
  • Assist in the unloading of shipments
  • Sorting of laptop bags
  • Sorting of RAM
  • Strip non-operational or incomplete machines for reusable parts (RAM, HDDs, power supplies, CPUs, motherboards etc.)
  • Tidying warehouse workstations
  • Cleaning equipment

Upon completion of 24 hours, volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation and a refurbished computer.

To reduce electronic waste and the negative impact it has on our environment, and to reuse unwanted computers and related electronic equipment through recovery, refurbishment and computer donation programs.

Description

We are a non-profit organization (founded in 2004) committed to reducing the environmental impact of improperly discarded toxic electronic waste by offering accessible services to help corporations and individuals manage their retiring IT assets. With reuse being ERA’s top priority, every item that is received is examined for any remaining productive life and, if possible, refurbished for reuse. ERA is committed to supporting local charities and individuals in need through their comprehensive, Canada-wide technology donation program.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 16
  • ERA's hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm. This position is available anytime within these hours, with a minimum 4-hour time commitment. To earn a laptop or desktop computer, 24 hours of volunteer work must be completed.
