We are looking for someone that is passionate about our Mission to become a member of the Simply the Basics' family!
Simply the Basics host Wednedsay Evening Open House events for volunteers to come together and assembly hygiene and menstrual kits, help sort products and support inventory. We are looking for an intern to support our staff during these Wednesday evening events with the opportunity to take on further activities! The role is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a nonprofit that is making an impact for our neighbors without homes, directly work with volunteers and other partner organizations, and learn about the business side of nonprofits.
Core responsibilities include:
- Assisting in Volunteer Open House on Wednesday evenings from 3:15-7:00 p.m. We host activities to Pack Hygiene Kits & Sort donations
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, up to 2 hours
- Tabling at Outreach Events: Marketing, sharing our programs, providing sign up information
- Administrative support on mailings, appeals, and donor database
- Social media/e-newsletter/blog updates
- ...and more items as needed!
Schedule: Average of 4-5 hours per week. Open House on most Wednesday evenings from 3:15-7pm. Additional activities may have different dates and times and are optionally dependent on your availability.
Start and end date is flexible (must be available for a minimum of 2 months).
Must have compassion for the homeless community and a great motivation to support a new and growing nonprofit!

Description
Simply the Basics is inspired by Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, the philosophy that people are unable to focus on any needs higher than their current level on the following pyramid. If they are unable to meet needs at the very basic level (food, shelter, clothing, education, and hygiene), they will be incapable of moving up in the pyramid to reach greater goals (job security, sobriety, mental and physical health, and self actualization).
By alleviating the struggle to meet a most basic need, a person can achieve independence in other areas. By removing the barrier of finding the next meal or safe place to sleep, securing hygiene products, and meeting any other basic human needs...People are given the Opportunity to Achieve.
