Volunteer Site Director, for Food Rescue US in Willowbrook, IL

This is not a fixed location in Willowbrook, IL. Food Rescue US is not a brick and mortar organization nor has a warehouse. We are a tech solution to food waste and food insecurity. The acting Site Director should be a member of this community or in a nearby community and has at heart the intention of aiding the community through issues of food waste and food insecurity. Since its inception in June 2021, this site and its partnering agencies and donors has helped find food and saved food in communities across Cook and DuPage counties. Over 160,000 pounds of food has been rescued through the engagement of local volunteers and a large network of agencies and donors have been linked to assist and support each other in their needs.

Seeking a new Site Director to take over immediately. Training and mentoring will be provided as the new Site DIrector transitions into the role.

Main Objectives

  • build a community network to support its work
  • securing community volunteers to pick up excess food at food donor organizations and using the Company proprietary software
  • delivering such excess food to recipient organizations which provide such food to people in need
  • Create, nurture, sustain and grow relationships with food donors, food rescue volunteers and food recipients.

Volunteer Site Director Responsibilities

  • Create, manage, and maintain a digital schedule on the Food Rescue US app for food rescues that meets the needs of food donors and receiving agencies in the location
  • Recruit a volunteer network to fill the daily food rescue schedule and keep them engaged in the organization’s mission through emails and events
  • Establish and grow relationships with food donors to secure their commitment and to determine the best days/times to rescue food
  • Build relationships with social service agencies and assist them in determining their food needs
  • Communicate activities and needs to the Food Rescue US National Office
  • Become an active participant in the local food waste and hunger community
  • Seek local speaking engagements, media opportunities and participate in local events relevant to the mission and to build awareness for the work
  • Work in collaboration with Food Rescue US Marketing Team
  • Build an internal volunteer team
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and that your personal vehicle is adequately insured and that in the event of an automobile accident, your personal automobile insurance will respond

Day to Day Operations

    • Create, manage and maintain a digital schedule on the Food Rescue US app for food rescues that meet the needs of food donors and receiving agencies in the location.
    • Support and training in best operational practices and procedures
    • Use of our Food Rescue US proprietary web-based app and tech support as needed
    • Advice and support concerning site management issues and the setting of goals and priorities
    • Access to and connection with our network of Food Rescue US sites for shared advice and knowledge
    • Inclusion in listings to National food donor networks
    • Training materials and guides

Marketing, Social Media, PR

  • Social media account set up, training and support
  • Promotional and marketing materials
  • Training on Canva, Mailchimp
  • Presentation Support (i.e. speaking opportunities)
  • Branding and messaging support for all electronic and written communications

Since our founding in 2011, we are now in 33 locations across 20 states and the District of Columbia, and we are constantly growing. Willowbrook, IL is our newest site and it is reaching out to assist other communities in DuPage and Cook counties. The more vounteers we gain, the more communities we can assist.

Food Rescue US Lifetime NUmbers:
- 73 million meals provided (each meal = 1.2 lbs)
