Art Exhibits Coordinator
El Cajon Library - Volunteer Position Description
Overview and Impact: The El Cajon Library serves a diverse community of over 120,000 people from all walks of life. It is our goal to create an environment where community members see themselves reflected in the library and have the opportunity to celebrate their identity. One way we can do this is through art. The chosen candidate for this position will help beautify the library and make it a welcoming place for our residents by coordinating art exhibits by local artists.
Key Responsibilities:
 Act as liaison between the library and local artists.
 Identify arts and cultural institutions in the community and reach out to them.
 Schedule art exhibits and assist with set up and removal of art from the library.
 Adhere to library policy regarding art displays by the public.
 Other projects and assignments according to interest. This may include collaborating with artists to plan art openings or other arts education programming.
Qualifications:
 Ability to perform all tasks listed above under Key Responsibilities.
 Strong communication skills in English; any level of fluency in other languages, such as Arabic, Spanish, and Farsi a plus.
 Excellent interpersonal skills.
 Interest in local art and desire to promote art as an important part of community.
 At least 18 years of age; background check required.
Training and Support Provided: Orientation and training on library resources and procedures. Staff available for consultation at all times.
Time Commitment: At least one year.

Description

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
