ORGANIZATION: HELPING THE BEHAVIORALLY CHALLENGING CHILD

  • 15 people are interested

We are a small nonprofit (making a BIG impact!) wanting to expand our programs and outreach. To enable our growth, we have started using Monday.com as our CRM/workspace. We are in need of a tech-savvy volunteer to help us implement and maximize use of this new software. Ideally, we'd like a volunteer that can commit between 1 to 2+ hours per week for a period of 90+ days. We believe this can be done remotely and we can be flexible in terms of the days/times that our volunteers devote to this project.

The approach that guides our work - Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) - was developed at the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Psychiatry, the #1-ranked Department of Psychiatry in the United States. The approach is proven to reduce challenging behavior, teach kids the skills they lack, and build relationships with the adults in their lives. CPS is listed on the Blue Menu of Evidence-Based Psychosocial Interventions for Youth from the PracticeWise Evidence-Based Services Database, and on the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare. The multiple studies conducted on CPS reveal tremendous benefits including significant reduction in parental stress, significant improvement in children’s executive functioning skills, 86% average reduction in physical restraint, 73% reduction in children’s oppositional behaviors at school, 71% fewer self-inflicted injuries, and improvements in parent-child interactions and feeling of competence. HBCC’s mission is to help the youth we serve lead more productive and inclusive lives by teaching families, professionals and academic and other institutions to implement this compassionate and proven approach with fidelity.

Duties of the volunteer CRM implementation team:

  • Research the capabilities/functionality of Monday.com
  • Import data currently maintained in Excel and other systems/databases into Monday.com
  • Train our small staff how to best use Monday.com
  • Transition management of Monday.com to one of our staff members

Our volunteers must be compassionate individuals desiring to support our mission of helping at-risk youth. Volunteers must be self-starters and be able to work independently with minimal guidance. Effective communication skills are also a must.

About HELPING THE BEHAVIORALLY CHALLENGING CHILD

Location:

145 W MAIN ST STE 260, TUSTIN, CA 92780, US

Mission Statement

Helping the Behaviorally Challenging Child in Tustin (HBCC) is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation that is composed of individuals who are committed to helping behaviorally challenging children lead more productive and inclusive lives.

Description

HBCC teaches a revolutionary, evidence-based approach for helping children with behavioral challenges. Through training, support and referrals to clinical services, we promote the understanding that challenging kids lack the skill, not the will, to behave well - specifically, skills related to problem solving, flexibility and frustration tolerance. Unlike traditional models of discipline, HBCC teaches an approach that avoids the use of power, control and motivational procedures and instead focuses on teaching at-risk, behaviorally challenging kids the skills they need to succeed.
