Help cook up nourishing hot wraps and sandwiches for our neighbors experiencing homelessness and housing instability along North Aurora!
Each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:30-9:30am we prepare 85 burritos or hot sandwiches in a commercial kitchen in Greenlake for delivery to Aurora Commons. This is a fun way to make a big difference!

  • Teams of 4 volunteers and 1 kitchen lead make the meals in Bethany Community Church's commercial kitchen.
  • You can sign up for one shift or as many as you like and pick the morning that works for you.
  • Personal protective gear (gloves and masks) are optionally provided and a COVID-19 compliant food preparation plan is in place.

About AURORA COMMONS

Location:

8914 Aurora Ave N, SEATTLE, WA 98103, US

Mission Statement

Aurora Commons is a welcoming space for our unhoused neighbors living along Aurora Avenue to rest, prepare a meal, connect to medical and social service resources, and collectively create a healthy and vibrant community.

Description

One of our highest priorities continues to be disrupting the isolation of our neighbors experiencing homelessness by offering them a safe space to connect with others and basic yet vital resources. However, due to COVID, doing so looks very different. Monday-Thursday, 10am-1pm, we are open for all people. From our front entrance we greet our neighbors individually with kindness, offering bottomless cups of coffee and a hot meal as well as access to bathrooms, laundry and our clothing closet upon request. Our women's only S.H.E. Clinic and all genders Aurora Clinic continue to run uninterrupted. Our community advocates are available to meet individually with unhoused neighbors as they navigate the complexities of the social service resource network in our city. Though we are unable to invite everyone inside at one time, like we did pre-COVID, it is evident from these recent comments that we continue to offer a space of genuine human connection:
"You are the happy part of my day."
"I can't believe you remembered my last name."
"I love all you guys. Thanks for always showing up."
"You guys make me feel like a person, not like the other drop-ins downtown that just want your name and social security number then push you out the door."
