Our first 'Outdoor Adventures Club' has been established with the collaboration of the Boys & Girls Club in Granite Falls. The program engages youth with nature, with active healthy lifestyles. Learning by adventure, love and respect for the natural environment, teamwork, leadership and self-confidence!
The program introduces youth how to hike and backpack safely to encourage engagement with outdoor adventures! These are some of the learning opportunities and activities we provide: Reviewing the 10 essentials of hiking and backpacking, map and compass skills, making waterproof matches, making first aid kits, demonstrating camp cooking, and outdoor ethics of earth-friendly hiking. In addition, crafts using fall leaves are explored, along discussing the health benefits of spending time out in nature. Also, a key element of the program is to lead hikes for participating youth.
Due to the great success of our first 'Outdoor Adventures Club' we would like to expand this valuable resource for youth, by developing another one at the Lake Stevens Boys & Girls Club, as well! Therefore, we are looking for a volunteer who has experience in the outdoors, as well as an interest in mentoring youth in engaging with all of the benefits of nature!
