Recruiting Organization: Nepal Orphans Home

Nepal Orphans Home's Volunteer Nepal (VN) brings to Nepal individuals with diverse skills and backgrounds who are committed to serving the poor and who seek profound and often life-changing experiences.

The ninth edition of Lonely Planet: Nepal listed Volunteer Nepal (and Nepal Orphans Home) among its recommended volunteer organizations. Largely based on volunteer reviews, Nepal Orphans Home earned the GreatNonProfits Top-Rated NonProfit Seal for the third year in a row in 2019.

Volunteer Nepal provides over a dozen placements throughout Nepal--from Kathmandu to remote villages. Options include teaching in village schools and assisting in hospitals and medical clinics, rehabilitation centers, ashrams, human rights NGOs, animal shelters, and village agriculture.

In 2019, Volunteer Nepal (VN) hosted 40 individuals representing eleven countries. The top three home countries with their shares of volunteers were the United States (45%), Australia (13%), and France (13%). A typical volunteer stint was between one to two weeks, although some individuals volunteer for months. Most of the volunteer placements involved teaching. Another popular placement in 2019 was community health and medical assistance.

The income from volunteer fees contributes to the operation of Nepal Orphans Home's Papa’s House.

While all skills are welcome and no prior travel in Nepal is required, a prerequisite for a successful volunteer experience is a commitment to help address the challenges faced by the poor in Nepal, especially the children.

Volunteer opportunities are available in many parts of Nepal, in both rural and urban areas. A wide variety of programs are offered to suit individual talents and interests. The volunteer experiences are individually designed. Volunteer experiences have also been provided for high school and college groups.

Due to COVID, Volunteer Nepal hosted only a half-dozen international volunteers in early 2020 and none in 2021. In 2022, we hope to be able to host international volunteers again.
