Generation Hope is a non-profit organization based in Washington DC that supports teen parents in the DMV area as they complete their first college degree. Every year, we host our Hope Conference, where our Scholars are able to meet other teen parents, attend workshops, and create powerful connections that will help them in school and beyond. In order to make this event as accessible as possible, we provide free childcare during certain portions of the event. This year, we are excited to announce that our Hope Conference will be taking place June 4th at the Bar-T Mountainside Summer Camp and June 5th at the Clarion Inn (Both in Frederick Maryland). On Saturday, we have two shifts: 10 am t0 12:30 pm and 1:15 pm to 4:15 pm. On Sunday, there is one shift from 10 am to 12 pm. All volunteers will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing and Generation Hope is committed to following the up-to-date CDC requirements. We also require all volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, you will need to complete a background check and a short childcare volunteer training. Interested parties can signup and find out more information here: https://generation_hope.formstack.com/forms/hope_conference_2022_volunteer_signup.

About Generation Hope

Location:

1401 Okie Street NE, Suite 300, WASHINGTON, DC 20002, US

Mission Statement

Generation Hope is a nonprofit organization that matches sponsors with teen parents who are attending college and are in need of financial and emotional support. Based on the belief that education is vital to success, its purposes are to give young parents and their children a support system as they pursue academic excellence, to provide a direct-support experience for sponsoring organizations and individuals, and to create a new generation of ambitious and successful families.

Description

This one-of-a-kind program, started by a former teen mother who wanted to see more teen parents beat the odds, matches teen parents (Scholars) who are attending college in the Washington, D.C. metro area with individuals, organizations, and local businesses (Sponsors) to participate in a mentoring relationship that includes emotional and financial support. This is a multi-year commitment, lasting until the Scholar receives their college degree.

We believe education is the best promise for teen parents to achieve stable and successful futures and consistent financial and emotional support increases the likelihood that they will graduate. When teen mothers and fathers earn college degrees, their children are less likely to live in poverty, and our communities are strengthened.
