Are you looking to give back and get outdoors this winter? Volunteer with Alchemist CDC's CalFresh at Farmers Markets program!
Your volunteer time directly creates equitable access to fresh, healthy, local food for every Sacramento resident!
CalFresh at Farmers' Markets facilitates the use of CalFresh/EBT and Pandemic EBT/P-EBT cards at Sacramento County farmers' markets. As a volunteer, you will help debit benefits from a customer's card and help receive redeemed vouchers from farmers.
Our program operates on Saturdays at Midtown @ 20th & K Street: 8am-1:30pm
We also have opportunties at the following markets this winter
Sunday
Central Market @ Under Bridge on 8th & W Street : 8am-12:30pm
Meadowview Market @ Meadowview Light Rail Station: 8am-1:30pm
Thursday
Florin Market @ Florin Light Rail Station: 8am-12:30pm
Saturday
Laguna @ Elk Grove Laguna Gateway Center: 8am-12:30pm
Country Club Plaza @ Arden-Arcade Butano Drive Parking Lot: 8am-12:30pm
Rancho Cordova Market @ Sunrise Light Rail Station: 8am-12:30pm
Volunteer shifts vary in length from 2.5 to 4.5 hours, and can be customized to fit your schedule. All shifts are hands-on, in-person at the farmers' markets. Due to the training required to help at the EBT Booth, we do require a minimum 20 hour committment, which can be completed over a 2-3 months. We do have shorter volunteer opportunities available at other Alchemsit programs, including at our Community Gardens and Community Food Access distribution center.
Our CalFresh community is diverse, and we welcome volunteers that can speak a second language (including Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese).
Give back to the community this spring by providing equitable access to fresh food for all!

Mission Statement
Alchemist Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting communities to land, food and opportunity toward a vision in which all neighborhoods are vibrant, equitable, healthy, and diverse.
Description
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we rely on volunteers to help connect communities to land, food, and opportunity, working toward vibrant, equitable, healthy, and diverse neighborhoods. We offer volunteer opportunities across three programs: CalFresh at Farmers' Markets, Neighborhood Empowerment, and Community Food Connections.
CalFresh at Farmers' Markets: This program enables lower-income individuals to purchase fresh food through SNAP benefits at farmers' markets in Sacramento County. Volunteers assist with SNAP transactions, distribute EBT and Market Match vouchers, and help redeem vouchers from market vendors, making farmers' markets more accessible and equitable for all.
Neighborhood Empowerment: We work with communities to maximize the potential of existing community garden spaces to grow fresh food. These spaces provide vital resources for programs like Community Food Connections while fostering engagement, learning, and collaboration among neighbors.
Community Food Connections: This initiative delivers fresh produce and groceries directly to low-income families in South Sacramento who face barriers to traditional food distribution. We prioritize sourcing produce from local farmers and community gardens, providing nutritious food for families while supporting our regional economy.
Join us in creating meaningful connections and stronger communities!
