The Animal Pad all-breed dog rescue is searching for some personable, positive, and patient volunteers to make up our team of Youth Volunteer Coordinators! We have recently revamped our youth program which is so special to us, as one of the cornerstones of our mission is to educate and inspire the future of rescue.
TAP's Youth Program is for volunteers 12-17 years old, and all volunteering for this role will be done onsite at our HQ facility in La Mesa. Our ideal candidate is someone who could commit to holding one, 2-3 hour set of youth hours per month to direct/supervise the kids while performing age-appropriate HQ tasks or crafts and hanging out with our known kid-friendly dogs. You would be responsible for managing the youth team channel in our rescue's Slack workspace and alerting the youth volunteers when the hours have been set for the month. All youth volunteering will take place on Sundays ONLY, anytime between 12pm-3pm, so as the team's Coordinator you'd have a lot of flexibility over setting your youth hours for the month to easily fit around your schedule! These volunteers must be good at interacting with and managing children and teens, and prior experience in education, childcare, etc. is highly preferred. Patience is key, as is clear communication!
We have a strong preference for keeping the adult/youth ratio as 1:5 - at least 1 YVC (Youth Volunteer Coordinator) for every 5 youth volunteers. Because it is of the utmost importance that our Youth Coordinators are well-versed in our safety protocols when it comes to our facility and interacting with the dogs there,we require that all YVCs complete at least 2 shifts on our Care Team prior to starting on the Youth team, along with committing to one recurring Care Team shift each month to keep up on safety practices at HQ. (Care Team listing can be found here - https://www.volunteermatch.org/search/opp3104943.jsp)
For safety purposes, there are NO youth volunteers permitted in the kennel area. It's critical that we are always being responsible and doing what's best for all parties involved - dogs and kiddos alike!

Mission Statement
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue based in San Diego, CA that focuses on saving dogs from the streets of Mexico and high kill shelters. We get them the vet care they need, place them in foster homes and then find them loving forever families. Our mission is to form a safe space for dogs experiencing crisis and neglect, and to build a community of compassion through education, rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption. Our community of volunteers and fosters strives to ensure that all dogs get a fighting chance, and believes that no case is too extreme to be helped - meaning our rescue is full of perfectly imperfect dogs who can’t wait to meet you! Being operated solely by volunteers and funded entirely by donations, none of what we do could be possible without our dedicated team!
Description
Here at TAP, we give voice to the voiceless and our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find them the best homes possible. Founded in 2010, The Animal Pad is volunteer run and funded entirely by donations. We rescue dogs primarily off the streets of Mexico, and provide them full medical care and a loving foster home to heal in before they head to their adoptive home.
