A Prospect Park Zoo volunteer interacting with a visitor at Conservation Station

This program is for teens and college students looking for a seasonal volunteer opportunity. Based in the Prospect Park Zoo's Education Department, Discovery Guides are seasonal volunteers (14 - 22) who receive training in customer service and basic interpretation. Discovery Guides focus on a select group of visitor experiences and, in turn, gain experience with teaching, leadership, public speaking, and learn about animals and the wild places they inhabit!

Discovery Guides will:

  • Interact with children, families, and general visitors at select exhibits and educational activities around the zoo
  • Help out with zoo birthday parties on weekends
  • Interact with children in the Discovery Center and at our Nature Playscape
  • Participate in the Wildlife Conservation Society's Conservation Action campaigns

We are currently recruiting youth for Summer 2018. Training will be June 10, 17, 24, 28 & 29. Volunteers must commit to two full days per week for the summer season. Applications will be available on our website in March, and are due by May 1, 2018. To request an application sooner, email the Volunteer Coordinator at ppzvolunteer@wcs.org.
