Recruiting Organization: Boston Medical Center Vital Village Networks

Vital Village is a place-based, community engagement network of residents and organizations committed to maximizing child, family, and community well-being that is housed within New England's largest safety-net hospital, Boston Medical Center. The Vital Village Network uses a collective impact approach to develop community-based strategies to improve child well-being in three Boston neighborhoods. The Vital Village Network is mobilizing collective investment from residents, community organizations, and institutions to seed scalable and sustainable community change to promote healthy socio-emotional development in early childhood.

The AmeriCorps VISTA service member would serve as one of three Community Mobilization Coordinators and partner with community stakeholders from schools, health centers, social service, legal advocacy, and community-based organizations. This opportunity is suited for an ambitious, creative, and focused emerging leader with outstanding interpersonal skills. The AmeriCorps member will play a key role in launching sustainable quality improvement systems across the network. The AmeriCorps member will gain an appreciation of child abuse as a social determinant of health across the life course, strategies to improve maternal and child health equity and support mental wellbeing for families and men of color. Interest in developing neighborhood interventions to improve child wellbeing and equity is essential. A commitment to academic-community partnerships and an interest in merging community-based participatory research with quality improvement strategies is also valued.

Duties focus on mobilizing collective investment from residents, community-based organizations, and institutions to seed scalable and sustainable community change to promote healthy social and emotional development in early childhood, prevent adverse childhood experiences, and cultivate resilient communities by: (1) supporting two-generation strategies for parents and children by coordinating and evaluating training and community leadership opportunities, (2) sustaining and growing Network member involvement to advance collective actions; (3) supporting the implementation of a community data dashboard that serves as a catalyst for community action, and (4) amplifying community-strengths and network activities through digital and traditional media.
