Mayan Families is a non-profit organization based in Panajachel, Guatemala, which develops educational, economic, and nutritional opportunities and assistance to the Indigenous populations around the Lake Atitlán area. Through a wide variety of programs that center on Indigenous leadership and community development, Mayan Families operates on the principle that all people should have access to the basic necessities of life with dignity and respect.

Our Economic Development department aims to advance the professional and economic growth of rural, Indigenous women and men, promoting local knowledge and techniques and increasing opportunities for income-generation for families and communities. We run an Artisan Program with an Artisan shop in Panajachel and an online store, and follow the fair trade principles of on-time payment of fair wages, gender equality and no exploited labor.


Sales Representative for Mayan Families Etsy Store

The Sales sales representative for our Mayan Families Etsy Store provides a strong and healthy connection between customers and the organization for our Artisan Program. The Sales representative works closely with the Sales and Marketing Coordinator in Guatemala to manage our Etsy clients and client communication, and the related accounting and inventory report. The position also works on product development ideas, branding and marketing strategy to increase sales for our Artisan Program.. The ideal candidate can use initiative to seek out new products, ideas, creative, detail-oriented and collaborative.

This position reports directly to the Economic Development Director and coordinates with the Sales and Marketing Coordinator in Guatemala.

Responsibilities

Sales and Marketing

  • Develop strong communication and relationship building with clients, answering their questions on the Etsy account.
  • Listing items on Etsy, prices, packaging and shipments
  • Fulfill orders and ship them twice a week. (4 hours in total)
  • Maintain and update physical inventory and ensure a fully stocked inventory
  • Coordinate with Mayan Families staff to record sales income
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales service
  • Support the Sales and Marketing person to develop and implement business strategies to increase our sales
  • Represent Mayan Families’ Artisan Program at trade shows, markets and conferences
  • Provide an appropriate space for storage for the handmade items inventory.

Skills required:

  • Fluent English, Spanish is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of North American markets, handmade products and fashion trends
  • Independent, self-starting work ethic
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to work to deadlines
  • Kind, collaborative attitude
