AmeriCorps VISTAs (Volunteers on Service to America) spend one year building capacity for poverty alleviating organizations. They work 35 hours a week and may work a second job or take classes during their service term. VISTAs are paid a modest stipend bi-weekly, benefits, and upon completion of service have a choice between an education or cash award. These programs aim to create a pipeline of opportunity from cradle to post-secondary education. Member Duties : The Generation of Promise Program Coordinator VISTA will support the work of the Generation of Promise program (GoP). GoP is a ten-month experiential social justice educational program offered to high school juniors in Detroit and the metropolitan region. This VISTA would be supporting the GoP Program Manager to: - Support virtual program events, including monthly programming with local organizations and leaders; - Facilitate recruitment and outreach; - Organize alumni network relations; - Develop program curriculum; - Support evaluation tracking; - Update social media content; - Offer additional in-office support as needed. An ideal candidate is a creative self-starter and is enthusiastic about youth leadership and social justice education. Focus: HOPE is a human service organization. Founded in 1968 in the wake of the 1967 Detroit riots by Father Willam T. Cunningham (1930-1997) and co-founder Eleanor M. Josaitis (1931-2011), Focus: HOPE unites a multicultural community in common efforts to overcome injustice and build racial harmony. Over the years, Focus: HOPE has initiated practical solutions to the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education, and racial divisiveness. Answers can be found in Focus: HOPE's technology training programs, educational and corporate partnerships, and food programs.
