AmeriCorps VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America):

  • Spend one year building capacity for poverty alleviating organizations
  • Work 35 hours a week and may work a second job or take classes during their term
  • Receive modest stipend bi-weekly, benefits, and upon completion of service have a choice between an education or cash award

Member Duties: Identify goals for the Urban Learning & Leadership Collaborative (ULLC) ; Establish program to continue Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline (DSTOPP) ; Support with the annual March for HOPE event ; Support the work of Generation of Promise (GoP) colleagues to get committed speakers and mentors for program days ; Build a "rolodex" of individuals tasked with Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) work in the Detroit Metropolitan area. ; Produce the HOPE Speaks podcast ; Identify grants, foundations, requests for proposals and other funding sources for work by the ULLC, DSTOPP and GoP programs.

Through the work of the individual in this role, we hope to strengthen and expand our Equity & Community Empowerment program's capacity through research, education, and the development of resources and events for community growth.

Skills: Candidate should have strong interpersonal, problem solving, multi-tasking and organizational skills. This member will work wonderfully with teams and exercise information-based decision making and priority setting. Strong writing and research skills preferred.
