Are you passionate about protecting our San Francisco Bay? Would you like a chance to interact with the public and engage visitors in marine science?

We are seeking dedicated volunteers for our Education Department, our Animal Care Department, and our Dive Department.

DOCENT PROGRAM AT AQUARIUM OF THE BAY

Position Description:

Do you love animals? Working with visitors of all ages? Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity? The docent training program at Aquarium of the Bay could be perfect for you!

Docents are expert guides to the Aquarium who share their knowledge with visitors. They serve as ambassadors for the San Francisco Bay and the animals who call it home, and they use their knowledge to educate the public on the Aquarium’s mission: "to protect, restore, and inspire conservation of San Francisco Bay and its watershed, from the Sierra to the sea."

Qualifications:

Must be passionate about learning, storytelling, and ocean/marine conservation. No previous experience is required, but experience teaching, touring, or public speaking a plus. For Dive Volunteers, you must be Dive Certified and tolerant of cold waters.

Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old and comfortable with public speaking. Must enjoy working with children and adults of all ages. Must be comfortable standing and walking for long periods of time.

Commitment for Docents:

Must be able to commit to a training period, during which docents will be expected to attend regular training classes and pass short quizzes. Must be able to commit to a regular schedule for at least one year (working at least one shift per week).
