AmeriCorps VISTAs (Volunteers on Service to America) spend one year building capacity for poverty alleviating organizations. They work 35 hours a week and may work a second job or take classes during their service term. VISTAs are paid a modest stipend bi-weekly, benefits, and upon completion of service have a choice between an education or cash award. Focus: HOPE's programs deliver workforce development training and education, early childhood education and asset-based community development work. These programs aim to create a pipeline of opportunity from cradle to post-secondary education.
Focus: HOPE's Equity and Community Empowerment Department (AECE) is seeking to improve and expand its outreach to the community in our non-service-related programs. This VISTA will build capacity by strengthening our current events and establishing programs that create dialogue and promote thought leadership within the community.
Member Duties:
Engage program alumni and donors in Generation of Promise (GoP); Create networking and mentorship events for GoP alumni and current students; Collect alumni feedback and perspectives to streamline GoP board operations; Plan an alumni-focused fundraising event; Lead AECE hosted events and AECE’s participation in events; Coordinate AECE meetings and obligations for the annual March for HOPE event; Develop an annual Focus: HOPE training schedule with development topics, timelines and standardized approval processes; Develop administrative tools for external diversity trainings; Find clients for external trainings ; Research funding for trainings; Relaunch the HOPE Speaks podcast, engage the community and organize speakers; Take an active role in all aspects of AECE events and trainings.
Skills: Event planning, organization, problem solving, systems assessment, teamwork, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and adaptability to shifting timelines, goals and objectives.
