Whether a small, tucked away seating area in the lower east side, a large rooftop in Brooklyn, or an expansive courtyard patio in the Bronx, quite a few BRC residential programs & shelters throughout the city have outdoor spaces that we would love to develop and beautify into places of respite and relaxation for our clients. What's missing is that one person (or an entire gardening group!) with the knowledge, talent, and green thumb to help make this happen. We would also love to have you share your gardening knowledge and skill with our maintenance teams so that they can continually maintain these spaces daily. Ideally, this would be an ongoing weekly or biweekly activity comprised of a small team (a gardening army?) so that we can ensure each space is properly maintained throughout the seasons with your help. Locations are throughout Brooklyn, lower Manhattan, and the Bronx.
Because this entire concept is a brand new volunteer activity, we do not currently have a schedule of shifts at the moment. We simply hope to identify and create a list of interested volunteers that we can then reach out to you when the need arises this spring & summer.
Lend a hand and help us beautify our outdoor spaces!

Mission Statement
Helping people reclaim lives lost: We restore hope and dignity by offering opportunities for health and self-sufficiency.
Description
BRC: Helping People to Reclaim Lives Lost. BRC is a leading provider of housing and services to thousands of New York City's individuals in need. Offering a hand-up, not a handout, BRC asks one simple question: What can we do for you? BRC sees the potential in each individual it serves and provides each the opportunity to find it. Whatever our clients may seek, BRC has it, 24/7/365: outreach to homeless people living in public spaces, drug treatment, mental health care, comprehensive medical services, vocational services, and supportive communities in which to live. BRC succeeds by building trust with the people we serve; listening, and then acting, providing housing - both temporary and permanent. Building trust takes time, and a compassionate, dedicated staff of almost 1,000 employees and 1,000+ volunteers that persevere 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, never giving up.
