SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead cultural orientations for recently arrived refugees (training will be provided by CCA, as well as translators for the orientations)
  • Assist CCA staff in the planning and coordinating of cultural orientations. Including finding locations to host, coordinating culturally-appropriate meals from restaurants in and around Clarkston, organizing and preparing necessary materials
  • Welcome clients to the orientation and be available to answer any questions
  • Administer quiz to clients at the end of the session

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in working with diverse populations
  • Excellent spoken English language skills
  • Ability to present content in an unbiased manner (related to U.S. laws, societal norms, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Must be flexible
  • Must embrace diversity and respect cultural differences
  • Willingness to give presentations to small groups
  • At least 21 years of age

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Public speaking & presentation experience
  • Bilingual (Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Swahili, and/or Spanish preferred)
  • Experience working in an intercultural setting and/or experience living abroad
  • Experience using PowerPoint

PROGRAM & SUPERVISOR: Refugee Resettlement Services, Logistics & Support Specialist

REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS: CCA Volunteer Application Packet, VIRTUS, Sterling background check, Driver’s materials, Refugee 101, Trauma-Informed Care training, Shadow an orientation led by CCA staff

LOCATION CCA Northlake office: 2305 Parklake Drive Suite 150, Atlanta, GA 30345, and any orientation locations in and around Clarkston

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 10 hours per month (two orientations per month)

This position involves direct contact or work with children; a three hour VIRTUS training program is required and will be provided.

COMMENTS: This position is unpaid.
