Calafia is California

There was a veery important moment in Californian history. During the process of making California a US State the Great Seal of California was designed by a fellow named Garrett and the design was accepted as the official seal of California. (1849) The problem is California is named after Calafia a mythic Black Amazon Queen but she doesn't appear on the Seal, instead Minera a greco-roman godess is depicted on the seal.
The question is how did this happen? Was there a mention of Calafia ? Did they know they were purposely exchanging Calafia for Minerva or were most of them unaware of Calafia? How did this come down and who were the players?
etc

If you love to research history, and you are an accomplished writer, this work will be more than rewarding, it will be exhilarating!
