ORGANIZATION: Friendship Circle of Greater Fort Lauderdale
Please visit the new page to apply.

The Friendship Circle of Greater Fort Lauderdale is seeking dedicated and loving volunteers who are looking to give back and help individuals with special needs. Our Life Skills/Job Training Program was created with the goal to provide our Adults with special needs an immersive, real-world environment where they can practice critical life and job skills. The program includes hands-on training in The Friendship Cafe, interpersonal & communication skills, academics such as basic math & reading, Yoga & relaxation techniques, a Mentorship program, Arts & more. Our program runs daily from 9:00am-3:00pm and we are looking for volunteers available anytime between those hours.
Experience working with individuals with special needs is preferred, however, it is not required as what we value most is patience, kindness, and the willingness to work hands on with our students. Our goal for our volunteers is that you take on the role of guide and provide assistance to our young adults when needed. We want our students to learn how to be independent and we want to build their confidence in applying the skills they learn in the classroom!

Mission Statement
The Friendship Circle extends a helping hand to families who have children with special needs and involves them in a full range of social experiences. The Circle's unique formula introduces teenage volunteers to the children and through shared experiences both are enriched. The Friendship Circle offers a unique opportunity for teenagers to connect with these children. We believe very strongly in rewarding our volunteers' dedication and commitment. To that effect, we have a very fun and exciting volunteer club, giving them an opportunity to meet other teens, go on amazing trips and receive personalized Friendship Circle gear.
Description
Friendship Circle pairs up teens with special needs kids to provide social interaction, mentoring and friendship.
Our flagship program is Friends at Home, where the teens visit the child at his/her home for an hour a week of games, fun and homework help, etc.
Other programs that we have are holiday programs, general programs, birthday programs and an annual family BBQ.
