CentroNia, a nationally recognized, award-winning educational organization providing affordable, quality early childhood education; professional development to educators; and family support services to nearly 2,400 low-income children, youth, and families in the District of Columbia metropolitan region. Founded in 1986, CentroNía is a multicultural learning community with a pioneering approach to bilingual education. Our holistic approach ensures that the children and families we serve receive the support and encouragement they need to succeed academically, develop a strong sense of community, and live a healthy and active life. CentroNía's services include nationally accredited early learning programs; family support services; a school meals program that is recognized by the USDA; and out-of-school time programs that create opportunities for learning after school and over the summer.

Our Development & Communications Department (DevComms) works to highlight the work of CentroNia and to raise crucial funds to support our programs, projects, and CentroNía’s overall mission.

The DevComms Team has a few gaps it wants to fill and one particular gap we're wanting to fill, is the Volunteer Communications and Social Media Associate (Unpaid). We need someone who is excited to support our organization’s communication goals and overall mission! The position will be a hybrid part-time position that will allow flexible hours and autonomous workflow on a volunteer, unpaid basis.

Generally, you will help with implementing our quarterly communications plan, maintenance of our website content, social media, Writing and Editing, and contributing to all corporate communications strategies.

Social Media:

  • Draft and organize social media content to promote CentroNia blogs, videos, and media coverage on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Contribute to social media quantitative and qualitative analytics reporting.
  • Create and coordinate content for social media campaigns and observances
  • Monitor and research influencers, trending topics, and tools.
  • Source content from staff around the world and at events.
  • General social media planning, research, reporting, and coordination as assigned.

Writing and Editing:

  • Corporate bios
  • Photo captions
  • Blogs
  • Project descriptions
  • Interviewing
  • Copyediting
  • Press releases and media advisories

Photo, Video, and Graphics:

  • Edit and format photos and videos for social media and web
  • Photo, video, and audio editing
  • Photography and videography
  • Infographics
  • Gifs, animations, and graphics
  • Digital asset management

We'd love for you to apply if:

  • You are able to follow trends and social media presence
  • You can commit to at least six months of volunteering
  • You can dedicate up to 6 hours of your time every week to CentroNía’s DevComms
  • You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • You believe in the mission and what CentroNia is all about!
  • You have a degree or are a recent graduate (graduated within the past year) or an undergraduate/graduate student in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, digital filmmaking, digital media, graphic design. Non-profit experience is a plus!
  • You are successfully self-motivated and able to work without excessive supervision.
  • You have intermediate to proficient technology skills.
  • Knowledge on or a willingness to learn about early childhood education in a multicultural setting and being multilingual are pluses.
