The Greater NYC Attorney Emeritus Program (AEP) Coordinator will coordinate a statewide pro bono legal assistance program that serves low-income New Yorkers. The AEP, sponsored by the NYS courts, is administered by Fordham Law School’s Feerick Center for Social Justice (FC), The FC places senior attorneys with legal services organizations that assist low-income NYers with unmet civil legal needs. Responsibilities include: developing program, evaluation and communications materials; developing and implementing volunteer recruitment, training, retention, coordination, and recognition strategies; planning events and outreach efforts; refinining data collection and tracking mechanisms. Ideal candidates have a desire to work collaboratively with a diverse staff and volunteers; strong organizational, writing, oral communication and technology skills; follow through on tasks; and attention to detail.


Member Duties:

Fordham Law School's Feerick Center for Social Justice (FC) works with law students, alumni, and a broad range of partners on anti-poverty efforts. FC jointly administers the NYS Attorney Emeritus Program (AEP) with the NYS court system. The AEP recruits senior volunteer attorneys to provide pro bono legal services to low-income NYers and matches them with approved legal services organizations. The VISTA will work to support the AEP in the Greater NYC area, and partner with a second FC AEP VISTA and an Upstate NY AEP VISTA. This position is a part of an 11-member VISTA cadre at FC and 3 other Project Sites. You will also have monthly check-ins with the FC senior staff, weekly program meetings with senior staff, monthly professional development workshops led by the VISTA Leader, and opportunities to attend NYC networking and training events. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone considering a career in the law, particularly public interest law.
