Help prevent gun violence through fundraising and awareness-building events!

We are looking for 4 volunteers to join our event planning committee at Texas Gun Sense, the only statewide gun violence prevention organization founded in Texas. Our biggest event of the year is our fall fundraiser in October. We would also love your help with 1-2 additional events throughout the year.

About Texas Gun Sense

Location:

Box 92722, Austin, TX 78709, US

Mission Statement

Texas Gun Sense advocates for common sense, evidence-based policies to reduce gun injuries and deaths.

Description

What We Do

Increase public awareness - We give the public resources and information about gun violence and prevention and about federal, state, and local gun policy.

Bring people together - We facilitate the Texas Coalition to Reduce Gun Violence, bringing stakeholders together to explore policy solutions to gun violence.

Advance public policy- We advocate for sensible gun law reforms and are a reliable source of information to state and local policymakers.

Serve as a media resource - We supply the press with information on gun violence and policy issues that impact Texas.

Texas Gun Sense Top Priorities

  • Enact an Extreme Risk Protection Order law ("red flag" law). Extreme risk protection laws create a mechanism for civil court judges to order individuals who pose an elevated risk of endangering themselves or others to temporarily relinquish their firearms.
  • Enact universal background checks. Unlicensed gun sellers are exempt from having to perform any background check before selling a firearm - that is unsafe. Exceptions can be crafted as appropriate.
We seek volunteer help with research, writing, graphic design, and social media. Please join us.
