ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

The San Bernardino National Forest is seeking qualified volunteers to serve as campground hosts for a six (6) month term agreement. Duties include meeting and greeting campers, light maintenance of campground facilities, answering visitor questions, and posting reservations. Selectees will receive a campsite with varying amenities that include water, electricity, sewer, propane, a picnic table, and a fire ring.


Campground information - Applewhite Campground is tucked up in Lytle Creek Canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains and close to Lytle Creek. The campground is first-come first-serve (will be comprised of reservations in the near future) and has 44 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. There are a few double campsites. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grill. The campground has drinking water, flush toilets and a friendly campground host. You’ll also find some tree carvings of bears throughout the campground.

Across the road from Applewhite Campground is beautiful family picnic area along Lytle Creek. The large picnic area has vault toilets, picnic tables, grills, grass areas and plenty of big trees that provide shade. The creek usually runs most of the year and you can splash around in the creek to stay cool during the hot summer months.

Outdoor recreation in the area includes biking, hiking, horseback riding, exploring historic sites, OHVing, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
