Transitions Pet Care is a nonprofit in Decatur that provides FREE pet care for the pets of pet owners who are diagnosed with a major illness or are disabled or elderly. Our services include free dog walking, litter box maintenance, and transportation to pet appointments.
Almost 100% of the pet owners that we serve are not able to drive and this creates an enormous barrier when their pet needs to see a vet or a groomer. Paying for pet transportation, which can be around $50 or more, is unaffordable for people who are on a fixed income. We provide transportation for free and we are currently looking for volunteers to help us transport pets to vet and grooming appointments.
Appointments will be located in Atlanta and Decatur. Volunteers will need to have their own reliable transportation and be available Monday through Friday during the day. We also ask for our volunteers to pass a background check.

Transitions Pet Care's mission is to provide pet care and re-homing services for the pets of people facing the end of life.
We provide pet care such as dog walking, litter box maintenance, and transportation to and from pet appointments so that terminally ill people can keep their pets even when they're too sick to care for them. We also work with these pet owners to identify a new home for the pet when the owner passes away. If a permanent home is not identified, the pet will go into one of our foster homes. This prevents pets from being dumped in a shelter or euthanized and enable the owner to pass away peacefully knowing their dog or cat will be cared for in a home environment.
