Sample of Activities

  • The most important activity is verbally engaging with visitors. You will greet all visitors to your work area, welcoming them and helping them be comfortable in that space.
  • Demonstrate a respect and appreciation for the artifacts on site that are meant to be viewed only and monitor the same consideration from our visitors.
  • Assist with answering questions about the exhibit and facilitating activities within the exhibit
  • Assist with occasional housekeeping tasks such as sweeping and dusting.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Create a friendly atmosphere.
  • Read any written materials provided for the exhibit. Familiarize yourself with the other sites at Living History Farms.

Time Commitment

  • Shifts occur during hours of operations, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, Tuesday - Saturday. Please sign up for as many or as few as you’d like. We do ask that you be available the entirety of your shift. This shift occurs in an air-conditioned space with access to chairs when needed.


  • You must enjoy people and be able to feel comfortable talking with individuals and groups. Listening skills are also beneficial.
  • Willingness to learn historical information and activities.

Age Requirements

  • We will accept children who are as young as 10 in combination with a parent or guardian. Children will work with the parent/guardian and assist in activities that are safe and appropriate for the age of the child. A child, as they become more comfortable, are also expected to engage verbally with our visitors.
  • A person who is 16 and over may volunteer by themselves.
