"With over 155 residents, ranging in age from 65 to over 100 years old, the Junior Joy Giver Program has provided an immeasurable benefit to both our residents and staff. If we could have them here every week, it would be an ideal situation that would provide joy and inspiration to all ages." -Richard Kennedy, Executive Director of Emeritus Assisted Living.
The Junior Joy Giver program brings a new intergenerational component into our programming. By training youth to provide interactive music experiences for seniors, we can connect two diverse sets of people who otherwise would have very little interaction. Additionally, arts education (including music) has largely been removed from school curriculum. The Junior Joy Givers Program provides intensive arts training as well as training to become an excellent volunteer and member of civic society.
Resounding Joy used principles and approaches developed from professional music therapy practice to train children and teens, which includes drumming, singing, and music-making. The program offers in-person and virtual opportunities for performing, leadership, and learning new instruments such as the marimba, Q-chord, and tone chimes. Requirements:
Under 18 years old
- Able to complete all required training
- Supportive and eager to share comfort and joy through music
- Passionate about providing social musical experiences to older adult populations

Resounding Joy enhances the human experience through the therapeutic use of music.
Resounding Joy enhances the human experience with therapeutic applications of music. We uplift individuals and families with challenging conditions, help them achieve their goals, and support health and wellness throughout the community.
Our music therapists are highly-trained professionals, who after graduating with an approved degree in music therapy, complete a 1,200-hour internship and a challenging national board certification test. Music therapists’ education encompasses biology, psychology, and neurology, as well as training in voice, guitar, piano, percussion, and often other instruments to accommodate various evidence-based interventions.
We offer our powerful and cost-effective music therapy services through three main programs:
- Healing Notes - music therapy to support children in medical care
- Semper Sound - music therapy to assist military rehabilitation
- Community Connections - music therapy for all
The Resounding Joy vision is to expand international awareness and to increase access to the power of music for recreational and therapeutic purposes.
